Things to see and do whilst staying with us

Being located on the edge of Dartmoor we are perfectly positioned to explore the best that South Devon has to offer. Whether you enjoy walking on the moors, exploring local towns and villages, visiting National Trust Properties or something more interactive there is something for everyone. Her are a few of our suggestions.

Bovey Tracey our local town

Our local town – Bovey Tracey “ The Gateway to the Moor “ is 1.5 miles away . In the town we are lucky to have an amazing high street which includes a fruit and veg shop, a baker, butcher, 2 delicatessens offering a variety of fresh bread, fine wines and cheeses and other local produce, various local and charity shops, a post office, an interior design shop, a weekly visit from a fresh fish van, a Tesco Express, a Co-op, independent cafes and 3 pubs.

 Exeter

The nearest city to us is Exeter (20 minute drive ) where you will find a thriving high street with all the big name shops as well as cinemas, theatres, restaurants, pubs and clubs and the historical Quay. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum is an interesting visit on a rainy day and entrance is free

Totnes

There is also Totnes – a fantastic market town where you will find artisan food shops and even local Devon vineyards as well as the majestic Dartington estate .  From Totnes you can get a foot passenger ferry to Dartmouth and then get the steam train back.

Animal Attractions

Paignton Zoo is around a half an hour drive away from Dartmoor Reach – a fantastic day out rain or shine with over 2000 species. Just a little further is Dartmoor Zoo the setting for the true story We Bought a Zoo. In Buckfastleigh you will find the Butterfly and Otter Sanctuary which can be combined with a visit to the impressive Buckfast Abbey.

Also a short drive away you can visit the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm, or Pennywell Farm

Dartmoor National Park

Walks

More locally to us you can find Trenchford and Tottiford reservoirs where you can take beautiful circular walks as well as Stover Country Park Nature Reserve and the National Trust riverside walk at Parke

National Trust

You are spoilt for choice with several lovely properties and gardens in easy reach. Castle Drogo on Dartmoor is the last castle to be built in England. We are also close to Killerton House, Coleton Fishacre and Greenway House the home of Agatha Christie.
